On behalf of Razom, a team of international lawyers has just completed work on a second legal report “Human Rights on Occupied Territory: Case of Crimea”.
Representatives of UNHCR (UN Refugee agency), UNICEF, and ECHO (EU Humanitarian aid and Civil Protection department) spoke about their important work of alleviating human suffering in Ukraine. They reaffirmed their commitment to providing humanitarian assistance to the displaced people in Ukraine. These organizations are also ready to help Ukraine’s government rise to the urgent challenge of implementing the legal framework and physical infrastructure necessary to respond to the current IDP crisis.
On April 13th, 2015 Yale historian Timothy Snyder spoke at Columbia University on the ongoing hybrid war between Russian and Ukraine, and its significance for the region, Europe, and the world. Professor Snyder discussed how what may appear to be a regional crisis could soon shape more of the world.
The American Association for Ukrainian Studies (AAUS), the Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies (CIUS), the Harvard Ukrainian Research Institute (HURI), and the Shevchenko Scientific Society, with assistance from Razom, jointly offer the below information to news organizations and journalists in order to facilitate a better understanding of some basic background information about Ukraine and the so-called “Ukraine Crisis.”
New York – A team of international lawyers has just released its Report, “Crisis in Ukraine: Its Legal Dimensions” and recommendations on the ongoing crisis and armed conflict in Ukraine. Prepared for Razom, a Ukrainian-American human rights organization, this team of highly trained international lawyers has outlined legal conclusions on Eastern Ukraine; the annexation of Crimea; the Budapest Memorandum on international security guarantees; and the human rights and humanitarian law at issue.
